Security, glazing and privacy
A new entrance door has to close securely and cope with regular use. Multi-point locking secures the door at several positions along the frame rather than relying on one locking point.
The amount of glass changes privacy and the light entering the hallway. New systems can include:
- Solid and partially glazed doors
- Multi-point locking
- Laminated or obscured safety glass
- Handles and cylinders suited to regular use
Sun and driving rain place extra wear on exposed finishes and hardware. The finish and door arrangement should reflect whether the entrance is sheltered or fully exposed.
Aluminium and PVC doors
Aluminium provides a strong frame and a broad range of finishes. It also works well when the entrance includes larger glazed sections.
PVC offers firm sealing and insulation for many conventional openings. Frame size, appearance and exposure help determine which material fits the job.
Colour and external appearance may need to match nearby windows or community requirements.
Thresholds and surrounding finishes
The threshold has to work with the floor levels on both sides of the entrance. A lower detail can make access easier but drainage and weather protection still have to be maintained.
Removing the old frame may disturb stone, tiles or render around the opening. Danny needs to see these finishes before the new door is specified. Older entrances are not always square, so a reliable quotation requires measurements at the property.

Repairs to the existing entrance door
A door that drags, catches or fails to lock may have an alignment, hinge, handle or lock fault. Sound door leaves, glazing and frames can sometimes remain when compatible parts are available.
This work is covered by the window and door repairs service. Replacement is considered when damage extends beyond the working parts or the complete door and frame can no longer provide reliable operation and security.
For replacement work, send a photograph taken from inside and another showing the entrance from outside. Include the frame, threshold and surrounding finish.
