What sits between the panes
Double glazing uses two panes of glass separated by a spacer and sealed cavity. The cavity reduces heat transfer compared with single glass. Pane thickness, coatings, cavity width and gas filling can change how the unit performs.
Choose around the problem
Solar-control, acoustic and safety requirements may call for different glass build-ups.
- Solar control for exposed elevations
- Laminated glass for safety and security
- Acoustic combinations for noise
- Low-emissivity coatings for insulation
Frames and fitting still matter
Good glass cannot compensate for a poor frame, failed seals or weak installation. The window needs to be considered as one system.
