Using windows and persianas to keep a villa cooler

Shade the glass first

External shutters stop much of the sun before it reaches the window. Closing exposed persianas earlier is usually more effective than reacting once the room is hot.

Glass and ventilation

Solar-control glazing can help on strongly exposed elevations. Opening patterns should also allow useful ventilation when outside conditions are suitable.
