Shade the glass first
External shutters stop much of the sun before it reaches the window. Closing exposed persianas earlier is usually more effective than reacting once the room is hot.
Glass and ventilation
Solar-control glazing can help on strongly exposed elevations. Opening patterns should also allow useful ventilation when outside conditions are suitable.
- External persianas
- Solar-control glass
- Mosquito screens for night ventilation
- Different treatment by elevation
Treat the house by orientation
A north-facing bedroom and a west-facing glazed living room do not need identical solutions.
